Concert Posters as a PDF file

This is a test of whether a concert poster can be made available on the website for use by members if they do not have a preprinted poster to hand for publicity.

Rutter Bruckner Poster 0610

If this link works it will provide a .pdf file which can be printed out in the normal way on your own computer. This first attempt has been made using a scanned version of the poster and hence the quality is not as high as it might be. For future concerts we will provide a PDF version of the original. As these are only intended as a back-up to the printed versions made available at rehearsals, they will be posted under the members section rather than under general publicity.

Any comments on this approach will be welcome.

Songs of Praise

We have received confirmation that the recordings made by the Society in November will form the opening and closing items of ‘Songs of Praise from Sunderland and the North East’ which is being broadcast on BBC2 on Sunday 19th July 2009 around 5 p.m. Why not tell your friends to look out for it.

The Garden Party was a treat!

Thank you to everyone who made the Garden Party such a success – those who came and admired the garden and enjoyed the raspberry cream scones and those who made it all possible. Our special thanks to S. and T.W. for the use of their garden. If you are still dreaming of champagne you need to get used to the idea that it has been won by another. Look forward to seeing you at the next 60th Anniversary event and the AGM which is on Wednesday September 3rd, 7.30 p.m. in the Minster.

Praise in Print

A recent letter to the Sunderland Echo from J.King made the following comments about our summer concert:

“Many years ago, in a film called The Glenn Miller Story the band leader found the ‘sound’ he was searching for when the band played Moonlight Serenade. On Saturday 9th June, I believe David Murray and the Bishopwearmouth Choral Society attained something of what Glenn Miller did. They were absolutely superb. Along with the orchestra and guest singers, the choir certainly made it a night to remember. Having attended the BCS concerts for the past 15 years, enjoying every one of them, I think they surpassed anything they had done before. Long may the choir continue to give such pleasure to the many followers who attend their concerts.”
